Garland Porter GRANBURY -- Garland Porter, 90, passed away on Tuesday, August 7, 2018. SERVICE: 10 a.m., Saturday, August 11, Wiley Funeral Home Chapel, Granbury, Interment: Long Creek Cemetery, Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, August 10, Wiley Funeral Home, Granbury. MEMORIALS: may be made to Long Creek Cemetery Association or to the Scottish Rite. Garland was born on April 20, 1928 in Cresson, Texas to Earl and Ivy Porter. He was an airplane inspector at General Dynamics for 43 years. He was a gentleman farmer and cattle raiser. He was known for repeating stories about his family especially his brother and father-in-law. He was a Deacon at Baker Baptist Church in Weatherford. He was very active in the Masonic Lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star. He was also the longtime President of the Long Creek Cemetery Association. He loved genealogy and Texas history. He enjoyed playing Dominos, doing Crossword puzzles, and hanging out with the 3 R'S (Ray, Roy and "Ring"). He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Charlene who preceded him in death in 1989 and Joyce who preceded him in death in 2009; granddaughter, Carrie Porter; great-great-grandson, Aiden Vickers; and brothers, Earl Jr., Waylon, and Glen Edwin. SURVIVORS: Garland is survived by his children, Marvin Porter and wife, Jamye, Charles Porter and wife, Sherry, Peggy McGee and husband, B.T., and Sue Armstrong and husband, Murray; grandchildren, Matt, Brandy, Chris, Jacob, Thomas, Clif, Troy, Kimberlie, Gail, Robert and Garland; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Waunell Bennett; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
