Marjorie Crow Obituary

Our beloved Mother and friend, Marjorie Louise Burns Crow-Botter of Houston, died suddenly on the morning of Friday, July 27, 2012, at 84 years of age. In recent years she had struggled with various health problems that reduced her mobility. Burial: She was interred in SouthPark Cemetery in Pearland beside her first husband, Ben S. Crow, and her daughter, Cindy. Contact Bob Crow, 281-331-5069, for information. Born Jan. 25, 1928, to John Solomon and Ollie Florence Burns, Marjorie was the last of six children and 20 years younger than Jewell, the oldest. Her father was a self-educated railroad engineer. The family lived on Merida St. near Seminary Hill in south Fort Worth, within sight of the railroad tracks and in the shadow of the big water tank. Dorthinelle Honney was her childhood friend. As kids they enjoyed roaming what were then bald prairies near their homes, always accompanied by Marjorie's dog Tiny. Margie attended Paschal High School, graduating in 1946, after marrying Ben S. Crow Jr. in the old Boulevard Christian Church in north Fort Worth. Ben and Marjorie had four children and lived at different times in the Meadowbrook neighborhood and on Gould Avenue on the north side. Through the 1950s Ben and Margie operated a small family jewelry store, with Ben's father, on 10th Street in downtown Fort Worth. In the '60s the family lived in the Texas cities of Dallas, Paris, Greenville, San Antonio and in Shreveport, La., before settling in Houston. For many years Ben and Margie worked together at the big Sage discount store on the Gulf Freeway. Ben managed the jewelry department and Margie worked in the cosmetics dept. Later, they owned and operated Crow's High Class Junque store in South Houston. Some years after Ben died in 1988, she married family friend and widower, John Botter. Mr. Botter, suffering from Alzheimer's, is currently confined to a nursing home. People enjoyed visiting Margie because she liked to laugh, talk and reminisce about places, events and good friends. Marjorie was preceded in death by husband, Ben Crow; daughter, Cindy; granddaughter, Christina; and siblings, Jewell, Lloyd, Vesta and Troy. Survivors: Marjorie is survived by her dear brother, Winston Burns; children, Shellie Ortiz, Danny Crow and wife, Krista, retired Col. Bob Crow and wife, Elke; grandchildren, Lacey, Trini, Dan Jr., Todd, Jonathan and their families; great-grandchildren, Dalton, Sara, Desiree and Jay; special friends, Barry and Sharon Christian.

I have very fond memories of sharing meals and many laughs with "Mr. and Mrs. Crow" as we knew them. Marje was a wonderful person with the kindest soul. I know she will be sincerely missed by a great number of family and friends. My deepest sympathies to her family.

My condolences to the bereaved family of Ms. Marjorie. May you be comforted by reflecting on the many beautiful memories that you hold dear. Also there will be a end to all sicknesses, pain and suffering that sometimes ends in death.
