If angels existed on earth, Mrs. Baker was walking proof one of them. As a child, whose parents were not present Mrs. Baker picked me up off the street, taught me to read my first chapter book, and showered me with love like no one had before. I have memories of her making us (hot) tea with plenty of sugar to sit and do my homework after school but before game shows came on the tv. As a young girl I would accompany Mrs. Baker on many occasions, many times to church (she even bought me church dresses and made sure I was clean and kept), out to the baker chapel, I was even included in more than one family function. At the time I didn´t know, but I truly believe Mrs. Baker was brought into my life by God when there really was no stability elsewhere to offer me sanctuary, and I am eternally grateful to her, and her family's kindness towards me as a child. I grew up, made it out of my situation and have even successfully gained a bachelor´s degree, which I wouldn´t have been able to do without the reading skills the Baker family helped me with. I don´t have many memories of my childhood, but I do of Mrs. Baker. At the time I wasn´t grateful but today I am grateful for the manners Mrs. Baker instilled in me as well. I wish I could have visited with Mrs. Baker before her passing but I wanted to wait until I had acquired my degree, I was class of UTSA, December 2022. I hope my message and gratitude finds you in Heaven, my Angel.

My heart is aching. I am hurting . Mrs. Baker was such a sweet ,sophisticated and classy lady. Always had a smile and a hug for me. Her house was one of the "very few" houses my mother would allow me to spend the night!!! Dr. Thornton and I were close growing up and are now sorors. Tears are flowing but my spirit is rejoicing!!!
