David Sturtz Obituary

Sturtz David Dale Sturtz, 78, of Pickerington, went home to heaven on Friday, September 18, 2015 at his residence. Born on May 6, 1937 to the late Walter and Helene Sturtz, David attended the University of Cincinnati and the Northwestern University Traffic Institute in Chicago. He was a 1959 graduate of the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy. He served 31 years in the Ohio State Highway Patrol, before retiring as a Major. David was appointed as the First Inspector General of the State of Ohio by Governor Richard Celeste and later reappointed by Governor George Voinovich. He was also the Assistant Safety Director for the City of Columbus and worked as a Training Coordinator for TSA at Port Columbus. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Elaine; children, Gretchen Sturtz and Craig (Courtney) Sturtz; grandchildren, O'Shay Mallory, and Christopher (Brittney) Sturtz; great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Makenna, Addisyn; brothers, Donald (Alice) Sturtz, James Sturtz, Kenneth (Mary Anne) Sturtz; and his uncle, Karl (Ruth) Sturtz. David was preceded in death by his first wife Iris Sturtz and his grandson Jonathan Craig "J.C." Sturtz. Dave lived his faith daily in Christ and lived out Joshua 1:9. Friends may visit from 3-8 p.m. on Monday at Peace United Methodist Church, 235 Diley Rd. NW, Pickerington, OH 43147, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday. Dear Elaine,
When Dave became the first Inspector General of Ohio I volunteered to do his work until he hired his staff. I was the Counsel for the Governor's Legal Assistant under Governor Celeste. Dave was a very nice man. May he rest in peace.

Dear Elaine and Family, We just learned about Dave's death and our love goes out to all of you. What a wonderful man who was filled with kindness for all people. He and Elaine were so wonderful to our Sarah,when they went to her games. We all loved him at Bexley United Methodist and remained dear friends over many years. I have many fond memories of our high school days together. Although I had not seen Dave in the last 10 years, he was always polite and generous. He was a very good athlete and had an excellent career. He will be remembered with grace and happiness.
