Donald Schonhardt Obituary

SCHONHARDT Donald Norman Schonhardt, passed away peacefully with his wife and children at his side, Friday, April 20, 2012, in Ft. Myers, Florida, his 83rd birthday. Don was born in Cleveland, Ohio on April 20, 1929, graduated from South High School in 1947, and enlisted in the United States Navy. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1954, and continued his employment with the federal government working at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. He attended Wittenberg University graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration and earning a Bachelor of Law Degree in 1964. Don worked for the Defense Reutilization and Marketing, Regional Office in Columbus, Ohio, retiring after 37 years of federal service. Don was a faithful member of Messiah Lutheran Church. He was a member of Ralph R. Rickly Lodge, the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, he was active in the Aladdin Shriners where he served as past Director of the Reception Unit and a member in good standing of the Ambassador's Club, and the American Legion, Post 283. Preceded in death by parents, Leona (Held) and Anthony Schonhardt. Don married his high school sweetheart, Helen Joan Giles in 1950. Survived by loving wife of 62 years, Helen; children, Don (Michelle) Schonhardt, Rob (Betsy) Schonhardt, and Lynn (Jerry) Foltz; 12 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and a host of family and friends. Family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, April 27, 2012 at the SCHOEDINGER EAST CHAPEL, 5360 East Livingston Ave., Columbus, OH 43232. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2012, at Messiah Lutheran Church, 1200 Wagoner Rd., Reynoldsburg, OH 43068, with 1/2 hour of visitation prior to the time of service. Pastor Karl Hanf officiating. Masonic service will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment at Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church or Shriner's Children Hospital. Visit www.schoedinger.com.
