Eileen Bird, age 93, of Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Troy, Ohio, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2018. She was born March 9, 1925 in New Haven, Ct. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years John S. Bird, Sr. She is survived by her children John S. Bird, Jr. of Houston, TX, David R. (Jeannette) Bird of Columbus, Ohio, and Kathleen (Michael Sr.) Cox of Columbus. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Troy, Ohio on Monday, May 7, 2018 at 11:00 am. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Troy. The family will receive friends from 9:00-10:30 am prior to Mass at Baird Funeral Home, Troy, Ohio. Our deepest sympathies, we are very sorry for your loss. I am not sure if this is the correct eileen Bird, I am the daughter of her second cousin, Emily McDonnell RIP in Ireland. Eileen and I have been in contact for many years and I am very sorry to hear of her passing. Dear David, Kathy, and John: I am sorry for your loss. I met your mother a few times and she was so charming. I had no idea of her many achievements. Her proudest accomplishment was her wonderful family.

Her light still shines in everyone who knew her. A well lived life was hers and a mighty oak has fallen.
I especially loved the story of when she was learning to drive a car and had an encounter with Albert Einstein who was walking in the middle of the road engaged in his thoughts. She taught him common sense.
She also told Dusty Baker to lose the toothpick. Not a good look, she said.
Most of all, her kindness and Irish humor kindled a light in all of us.
