Julie Johnson Obituary

Johnson Julie L. Johnson, age 58, of Galena, died unexpectedly at her home on Friday, February 3, 2017. She was born on March 24, 1958 in Columbus, Ohio the daughter of the late Briley K. and Bettie L. (Mahan) Johnson. She was a graduate of Big Walnut High School in the class of 1976 and received her bachelors in Computer Science from Otterbein College in 1980. She was employed by Nationwide Insurance as a computer software developer until 1996 when she retired to care for her ailing mother. It's hard to put into words how active and how important Julie was to the inner workings of the Galena United Methodist Church. Her membership spanned over 40 years and as an 18-year-old she was the Sunday School Supervisor. In fact, aside from the role of trustee she held every office in the church. Her roles included Financial Secretary, VP of the UMW, G&T Club, Membership Secretary, Youth Group Leader, Vacation Bible School for over 20 years, church photographer, played hand bells, Fun Bunch, and Open Shelter. The group that will probably miss her the most are the shut-ins who she checked on regularly. Julie also bowled every Monday night, enjoyed scrapbooking, and photography. She loved traveling, especially cruises. She also found time to actively participate in the Big Walnut Alumni Association. Julie will be remembered as an individual who cared more about others than herself. She was a "best friend to many". Her brother described her as, "a blessing to everybody and a faithful servant". She will be missed by her brother, John Johnson and his wife, Anita of Galena, their children, Nicole and her husband, Tommy and Jacob; cousins, Becky Duvall and Dave and Mike Mahan; and many more special cousins. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sister Beth Johnson in 1980. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2017 from 4-8 p.m. at the Galena United Methodist Church, 2777 Sunbury Road, Galena, Ohio 43021. Funeral services will be held there on Friday at 11 a.m. with her cousin Mike Mahan officiating. Burial will follow in Galena Cemetery. The family asks that contributions in Julie's name be directed to the Galena United Methodist Church Women. The DeVORE-SNYDER FUNERAL HOME is honored to serve Julie's family. I am saddened to hear of Julie's passing. It had been a long time since we spoke, but she was a big part of many great high school memories. RIP

It is extreme sadness that I just learned about the passing of Julie. Julie and I worked together at Nationwide Insurance for many years and I truly appreciated her dedication and leadership in all she did. As her manager, Julie was very meticulous in her day to day assignments. She was a pleasure to work with and she was a good friend. To the entire Johnson - Mahon families, I share in your sorrow during this time. I pray God gives you the strength to endure during this most difficult time.

Respectfully submitted;
