Kent Brandt Obituary

BRANDT Kent Hammond Brandt, age 82, of Dublin, Ohio, passed away on Monday, July 26, 2010. Kent was born in Evanston, Illinois on October 4, 1927; he is the son of the late Schuyler Buell Brandt and Marjorie Greene Brandt. Kent is also preceded in death by his brother Schuyler "Dod" Buell Brandt, Jr. He was a graduate of Upper Arlington High School, class of 1945; and graduated from The Ohio State University, Class of 1951, with a Bachelor of Architecture. During college Kent was active in the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity and SPHINX Honorary. After graduation Kent taught at the School of Architecture. He served his country in the US Navy from 1945-1946. Kent was honored by The Ohio State University as a Distinguished Alumnus and was past president of the Columbus Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. Kent also served on the Board of Trustees of the Architects Society of Ohio. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and is survived by his loving wife, Jean Chard Brandt, with whom he would have celebrated 60 years of marriage on September 23, 2010; three sons, Douglas K. Brandt of Columbus, Jeffrey S. Brandt of Columbus and David S. Brandt of Grove City, OH; two daughters, Kathryn (Lewis) Stocker of Mason, OH and Laurie (David) Kamnikar of Hilliard, OH; five grandsons, Joseph S. Brandt of Columbus, Scott Z. Brandt of Westerville, OH, Andrew K. Stocker of Mason, OH, Ryan A. Stocker of Mason, OH and Jack L. Kamnikar of Hilliard, OH; much loved sister-in-law, Crill Davis Brandt; along with three special nieces, Rita Brandt Hopkins, Bonnie Brandt Masten and Margie Brandt Luce. Together with Leland F. Brubaker they founded the leading architectural firm Brubaker/Brandt, Inc. During a long career he was involved with numerous building and design projects throughout Ohio and Florida. Chief among these were the Rhodes State Office Tower, the Motorist Mutual Building, the John W. Bricker Federal Building, the Ohio Bell Building, and the initial Port Columbus renovation. He enjoyed golf, tennis, skiing, crossword puzzles, Soduku, sketching, and all gathering with his loving family. He also created amusing and much loved cartoon drawings of family vacations. He and his wife Jean were early participants in Vaudevillities. Kent and Jean were long time members of First Community Church and Scioto Country Club. Family will receive friends on Friday, July 30, 2010 from 5-8 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road, Columbus, Ohio 43221. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at First Community Church, 1320 Cambridge Boulevard, Columbus, Ohio 43212. Dr. Richard Wing and Rev. James Long co-officiating. A private interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to HomeReach Hospice, c/o Ohio Health Foundation, 180 East Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio 43215 or First Community Church. Jean, I just learned of your loss. Kent was a dear friend during the '40's and regret that we lost track of each other after I lost my wife in 1999. I extend deep sympathy.
