Michael Gavazzi Obituary

Gavazzi, Michael
1988 - 2017
Michael Gregory Gavazzi, age 29, passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 following a severe asthma attack and short hospital stay at Riverside Methodist Hospital. He was born on January 6th, 1988 in Hartford, CT before moving to central Ohio, where he grew up and spent all his adult years. Mike was a 2006 graduate of Hilliard Davidson High School, and graduated in 2010 from The Ohio State University with his bachelor's degree in psychology and a minor in sociology. Most recently, he worked as a program monitor for Star House, a runaway shelter that was operated by Ohio State. He was about to begin his first "dream job" as a software coder for The Gap before his untimely death. Mike was a musician who, along with his brother Max, played in numerous local area bands. He was an avid reader who especially enjoyed science fiction and fantasy novels. Mike also was a miniatures enthusiast who acquired great talent in painting Warhammer figurines. He grew up playing baseball and soccer and was a huge Columbus Crew fan. He also bled Scarlet and Gray for his alma mater every football Saturday in the Fall, and was a passionate fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers on NFL Sundays. Mike shared the same birthday as his paternal grandfather, John Gregory Gavazzi, who preceded him in death at the all-too-short age of 39 years of age. He also was preceded in death by both of his maternal grandparents, Theodore (Ted) and Bernice Metz. Surviving family members in Ohio include his mother Carole, his father Steve, his brothers Max, Connor, and John, and his stepmother Courtney. He also is survived by his paternal grandmother Dina, his many aunts, uncles, and cousins who primarily reside in his parents' home state of Pennsylvania, as well as other family members scattered across the globe. An animal lover, Mike leaves behind his dog, Ally, and his cat, Donald, who will be cared for by family and special friend Heather. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for two donation considerations. First, because of Mike's lifelong struggle with asthma, donations in his name to the Breathing Association of Central Ohio (http://www.breathingassociation.org) would be appreciated. Second, in recognition of his affection for animals, donations in Mike's name to Columbus Humane (http://www.cahs-pets.org) also would be appropriate. The family will receive friends at the TIDD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME WITH CREMATORY, 5265 NORWICH STREET, HILLIARD, OH 43026, Sunday, December 3, 2017, from 1:00 – 3:00 P.M. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 3:00 P.M. To leave your favorite memory of Michael or to leave the family online condolences please visit www.tiddfuneralservice.com.
