Ralph L. Cottrill, age 94, of Sunbury died Saturday, February 10, 2018 at The Inn at Olentangy Trail in Delaware. He was born on August 4, 1923 in Jeffersonville, Ohio, the son of the late Roy F. and Clara Mae (French) Cottrill. After graduating from high school, Ralph worked at NCR in Dayton before being drafted into the United States Army. While in the Army he worked in the Finance Corps, stationed in Europe during WWII. Once honorably discharged, he enrolled at The Ohio State University where he earned his degree in finance and accounting. Ralph worked many years for the U.S. Army Audit Agency, but ultimately retired from the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare. For many years he had huge gardens, and many in Sunbury will remember him as "the walking man." He once calculated that he had walked in excess of 15,0000 miles over the roads of Kingston Township. Ralph was extremely active in the Big Walnut and Olentangy Seniors organizations where he made many valued friends. Ralph also spent several years delivering meals to shut-ins and driving cancer patients to their medical appointments. He will be missed by his children David (Gilda) Cottrill of Worthington, the Rev. Leslie (Joe Cook) Lippert of Yellow Springs, and Hope Ann Ingalls of Howard, Ohio; and grandchildren Zachary Lippert of Denver, Colorado, and Tara Ann Williamson of Mount Vernon. In addition to his parents Ralph was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Eileen (Neiswander), his sister Janice Jones, and brothers Kenneth and Paul Cottrill. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 637 North State Route 61, Sunbury, Ohio 43074. The Rev. Susan Kyser officiating. Burial to follow at Cheshire Cemetery in Delaware. Friends may call on the family one hour prior to the service.
