Robert Baer Obituary

BAER Robert L. Baer, age 76, of Sunbury, died Saturday evening, June 9, 2012 at home surrounded by his family. Born December 4, 1935 in Lancaster, Ohio to the late William and Rosalie (Callahan) Baer. A proud US Marine Corp veteran, he was a member of the Sunbury V.F.W. Post #8736. Bud worked as a truck driver and route supervisor for Columbus Distributing before retiring. Always the Marine he was an ornery cuss. Though he was rough on the outside, he had a heart of gold. He was happiest sharing a story with his many buddies. Witty, he enjoyed a good sense of humor and was also a member of the Sunbury Eagles. Over the years his numerous interests included golf, softball, bowling, fishing, and hunting rabbits when he was young. A gambler, he enjoyed video poker, the sunshine and ocean. His stool was always reserved at the Village Tavern, his favorite spot. He treasured his family and friends and was most proud of his awesome children. Bud is survived by his wife of 52 years, whom he lovingly called "Smitty" Myrna (Smith); children, Keith (Jona) of Sunbury, Stephanie (Jerold) Tear of Hicksville, Lesli (Keith) Kintner of Sunbury, Heidi Baer of Delaware, Derek (Linsey) of Centerburg; 17 grandchildren, one great-grandson; sister, Mary Hardacre; and a host friends. He was preceded in death by brother Bill Baer and sister Ada Mae Baer. Graveside service 11 a.m. Friday, Sunbury Memorial Park, lead by Jerold Tear and military honors will follow provided by the honor guard of V.F.W. Post #8736. Celebration of Bud's life will be held at 12:30 p.m. at 865 Carters Corner Road. Arrangements entrusted to DeVORE-SNYDER FUNERAL HOME in Sunbury. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to HomeReach Hospice or American Cancer Society. Condolences may be expressed at www.snyderfuneralhomes.com

I only had the pleasure of knowing Bud the last 3+ years. But in that time he became a dear friend. I loved him like family! I will miss him so much.
RIP Bud.
