Wendell French Obituary

French, Wendell
1922 - 2017
Wendell "Chuck" Stultz French, age 94, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2017, at his home in First Community Village (FCV), Columbus, Ohio. Born in Columbus, Ohio, on November 25, 1922, Chuck grew up in Richmond Dale and Chillicothe, Ohio. A World War II veteran, he proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946, including combat in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater (Battle of Luzon, the Philippines campaign), earning an honorable discharge with the rank of Staff Sergeant, numerous service awards, and a Bronze Star Medal. He returned to Columbus and married his soulmate Jean Ann French. This inseparable couple enjoyed 49 years of marriage before her passing in 1995. Chuck graduated from The Ohio State University in 1949 with a B.S. in Business Administration and spent his career in welding sales and consultancy. Chuck will be remembered for his fervent patriotism, gentle spirit, conciliatory nature, and empathy toward all living creatures. He is survived by his cousins, Carol Ann Winchell of Upper Arlington, Ohio, and Homer S. French Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia; as well as nephew, Philip J. Winchell and his wife, Pam of Enon, Ohio; and friend, Graham R. Walden of Upper Arlington. The family extends their gratitude to the compassionate and responsive staff at Roxbury Cottages, and especially to private caregiver Phyllis Cunningham, whose extraordinary commitment greatly contributed to Chuck's quality of life in his final years. Thanks also to his jovial private caregiver Tommy Bridges. You may pay your final respects at a Celebration of Life service to be held at 12 noon on August 20, at the Burkhart Chapel, FCV, 1801 Riverside Drive, Pastor Gerald D. Murphy officiating. Arrangements entrusted to EVANS FUNERAL HOME with internment at Glen Rest Memorial Estate. Friends are asked to consider contributions in Chuck's memory to an animal welfare organization of their choosing. To share memories please visit www.evansfuneralhome.net

Carol,
My sympathy to your family on the passing of Chuck. May past memories of him continue to warm your heart for a lifetime.

Years ago, I was in your OSU Aquatic Exercise class when you asked if I knew of a caretaker who could assist Chuck in his home. My neighbor & friend, Phyllis Cunningham, then came into your lives and a special, lifelong bond was formed. Truly, it was a blessing to Chuck from above!
