Charles Loranzie Jeter, age 81, passed away Sunday, July 2, 2023 after a courageous battle with heart disease. On July 8, 1941 this strong and talented boy with a competitive spirit was born to Annie Linebarger Jeter and Walter Loranzie Jeter of Tippah County.
Charles attended Ingomar High School and graduated with the Class of 1960 where he was elected Mr. IHS. He played basketball at Northeast MS Community College before finishing his degree at the University of Mississippi in 1968. Upon completion of his degree he went on to be a practice teacher at Greenwood Jr. High School with his friend Sonny Faulkner (deceased) of the Ingomar community. Charles was one of the first five people hired when the Masterbilt Corporation opened in New Albany in the early 60's.
He forged many great friendships over 38 years working with the New Albany Electric Department. Upon his retirement he spent the next 20 years working as a private electrical contractor with his best friends, Larry Chism and Jimmie Dale Baker.
He was an officer and member of the North Mississippi Case Knife Collectors Club and board member of the Ingomar Cemetery.
Often called a "Jack-of-all-trades," he always found his hands helping friends, family and his church. He was a faithful member of West Ingomar Church of the Lord Jesus Christ for 50+ years where he served as President of the Board and was honored as a "Guardian of the Faith."
He was a family man and adored his grandchildren. From coaching little league to Boy Scout camps, Charles spent many years working with youth. He often stepped up as a mentor to his good buddy Jon Brooks Almand by attending Boy Scout Camp in Yocona. In his later years he often attended ball games to cheer his grandchildren on. He was an outdoorsmen, an avid fisherman and deer hunter.
Charles was loved and admired by many who came in contact with him. He had a friendly personality and greeted everyone with a loving smile. His charitable Christian spirit always shined through as an anonymous and cheerful giver, constantly thinking of others first. He was a huge supporter of United Blood Services and donated his rare blood for many years. Even in death, Charles gave as an organ and tissue donor.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Rosemary Williams Jeter; two sons, Ronald "Clift" Jeter (Dawn), and Timothy Loranzie Jeter (Ginger), six grandchildren, Alana Jeter, Alex Jeter (Ellen), Roman Loranzie Jeter (Gracie), Alyvia Jeter (Hunter), Claudia Jeter and Bella Jeter; two great grandchildren, London Rose Jeter and Charles Weston Jeter.
He is also survived by one sister, Juanita Micheals of Ripley, MS; two brothers, Jerl Jeter of New Albany, MS and Randy Jeter of Myrtle, MS.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Annie Linebarger Jeter and Walter Loranzie Jeter of Tippah county; one sister, Mary Joyce Jeter and one brother, Edwin Jeter.
Honorary Pallbearers: Jimmie Dale Baker, Larry Chism, Curtis Downs, Charlie Hall, John Robbins, Carroll Rogers and John Pannell.
Pallbearers: Jon-Brooks Almand, Caleb Starnes, Rodney Page, Paul Starnes, and Andrew Wasylina.
Visitation will be 4:00 p.m.- 8 p.m Friday, July 7th at United Funeral Home in New Albany. A Home Going Service will be held Saturday, July 8th at 11 a.m. at West Ingomar Church with Rev. Glenn Dendy and Rev. Stanley Jeter officiating. There will be visitation from 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in the Ingomar Cemetery. There will be no graveside service. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to West Ingomar Church.
