Anne Buckland Obituary

Anne Margaret Buckland May 19, 1965 - April 25, 2012 Resident of Oakland, CA Anne Margaret Buckland passed away peacefully at her home in Oakland while holding her husband's hand one final time. She was 46 years old. Anne is survived by her husband of 13 years, Dominic Dela Cruz of Oakland, their son Devon Dela Cruz, her parents Michael and Traude Buckland of Berkeley, her brother Anthony Buckland, as well as her mother-in-law Frances Dela Cruz, sister-in-law Danielle Miguel, her nieces Alexandra and Ryann Miguel, her nephew Nico Miguel, and uncles, aunts, and cousins in Austria, Canada, and England. Anne was born in Sheffield, England, and initially attended primary school in Galgate, Lancashire prior to emigrating to West Lafayatte, Indiana, in 1972. In 1975, she and her family moved to Berkeley. She graduated from Berkeley High School in 1982 and subsequently attended the University of California at Berkeley for one year before transferring to UC Santa Cruz. From 1985-86, Anne was a visiting student at St. Peter's College, Oxford University, where she studied history and rowed crew in the College's very successful second Ladies' boat. In 1987, she graduated from UC Santa Cruz with a BA in Biology and History. After graduation, Anne returned to the U.K. where she worked as a buyer for Debenhams department store in London until 1993 when she returned to live in Oakland after a 6-month jaunt around the Pacific and South-East Asia. Anne then worked as an Analyst for the HR/Benefits Department at the University of California Office of the President for 15 years and at UC San Francisco for 2 years. Anne's only sadness was in not having enough time to spend with the friends and family she loved; especially her son, Devon, who will never forget the comfort found in her arms. If the hallmark of a good life is measured in love reciprocated, then her life was great indeed. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Home At Last Animal Rescue, PO Box 2261, Berkeley, CA 94702-0261 would be appreciated. A Memorial Service will be held for Anne on Saturday, May 19,2012 at 12:30pm at the Padre Picnic Area in Tilden Park, Berkeley. More information may be found at http://www.craftymutt.com/anne

Dear Anne:

I know you have your angel wings on and are watching over your family. I was so fortunate to have you there for me to help me with my layoff three years ago. I recall a conversation about the pictures on your desk and your face lit up with pure joy and you said yes, that is my handsome husband and handsome son and they are the reason that I come to this job every day. Thanks Anne for being the good hearted person that you were. My condolences to your family.

Sincerely,
Naomi McPherson
