Herschel Anderson Obituary
Herschel "Andy" Anderson On Saturday, July 2, 2005, our husband, father, and grandfather left his broken body to live eternally in Heaven with God. He was surrounded by his loving wife of 39 years, Lois, along with his two daughters, Cheryl Canada and Marlene Kinley, and his grandchildren, Jason & Christopher Canada, Jordan and Britten Kinley and Taylor and Mikenzie Wetzel. His son-in-law, David Kinley, and daughter-in-law, Teri Wetzel, also were there to say their sweet good-byes. Andy fought a heroic battle with lung cancer that began in 2002. He now lives without the burdens of this ravaging disease and he is home with his Creator where he is reuniting with his family that preceded him. Born of Herman and Lois Anderson in Stuart, Oklahoma on October 16, 1926, Andy was the oldest in a family of 5 boys and 2 girls. His family moved from Oklahoma to Fresno, California during the "dust bowl" days of the Great Depression. He is survived by one brother, Donald Anderson of Denver, Colorado, and a son, David Anderson of Duluth, Minnesota. Following the Pearl Harbor attack, Andy felt a strong desire to serve his country. He served in the US Navy where he was assigned to the USS North Carolina and the USS Bon Homme Richard. During his 16 years of service he served in World War II, the Korean War and fought in the invasions of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. After his honorable discharge, he worked at the Lawrence Livermore Lab. After 40 years of employment, he retired in 2002 with exemplary service in the Security Department. Andy attended Crosswinds Church in Dublin, where he served as an usher and in other volunteer roles. In addition, he served on the Board of the Dublin Senior Foundation. While he was not volunteering, you could often find him reading, gardening and spending time with his beloved grandchildren. He traveled often with his wife and daughters. He was thrilled to travel to Pearl Harbor this past November where he could give us a VIP tour of the Memorial along with his favorite sites on the island. We will all cherish that special journey with him. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 10, at 2 p.m. at Crosswinds Church, located at 6444 Sierra Court in Dublin. Wear your favorite Hawaiian shirt so he can spot us all from Heaven. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity or to ours, Vista Hospice - www.vistaschrityfund.org. So for now, we say "Aloha Andy" until we meet again in Heaven. We will all miss his gentle and giving heart.
