Joanne Larson Obituary

Joanne Dee Larson Former Resident of Alamo Lost her four-year battle with lung cancer and passed away in her sleep on March 1, 2009. Joanne was born in Detroit, Mich., on October 15, 1930. She spent her early childhood playing in her mother's dress shop and tending her grandfather's cattle in Worthington, Minn. Her family, Glen and Irene Munce, moved to Berkeley, Calif., during WWII and her father worked in the shipyard in Vallejo. She went to Dillard Middle School, Berkeley High School, and UC Berkeley. After schooling she worked as the executive secretary in the Berkeley Chamber of Commerce and Honeywell, Inc., in San Francisco. In 1980 she became a travel agent and worked in Alamo, Calif., for many years. In 1955 she married Larry Larson, a Colgate Palmolive engineer, and they spent their 53 years of wonderful married life together in Berkeley, Walnut Creek, Danv- ille, Alamo, and finally Rancho Murieta. They traveled and cruised the world together until last October, when the effort became too much. During her years in Rancho Murieta she was an active golfer and a regular at the Rancho Murieta Women's Club. She was known for her smiling face and upbeat attitude. All who knew her, loved her. She will be missed by everyone. She is survived by her husband Larry, two sons, Bradley and Gregory Larson, her daughter-in-law Jennifer Larson, and granddaughter Krystlyn Giedt. There will be a private family service, and she would very much like that any donations in her memory be made to American Lung Association.
