John Sanguinetti Obituary

John V. Sanguinetti
March 17, 1923 - September 17, 2021
Resident of Fremont
John Valente Sanguinetti was born March 17, 1923 in San Francisco, CA to Antonio and Assunta Sanguinetti. After graduating from Galileo High School he served during World War II as a Paratrooper in the 503rd Airborne Regiment of the United States Army. He was awarded a Purple Heart fighting at the Battle of Corregidor in the Philippines. Following the War, he became a tradesman working as a commercial glazier in San Francisco. He was an avid hunter and very much enjoyed the camaraderie of his friends in his hunting club.
In 1959 he met the love of his life, Patricia Gallagher, describing it as "love at first sight". They married and eventually settled in Fremont, CA where they raised sons Mark, Matt and Jim. John worked at the Fremont Unified School District, initially being the sole glazier, and retired in 1988. During his time at the school district, he developed a close network of friends who loved to share laughs and stories. They always supported each other in any way they could. He was a hardworking and dependable man. In his sons, he instilled an appreciation for nature during their regular ongoing adventures to beaches and parks in California. He and Pat were unwavering supporters of their son's athletics and other endeavors. John enjoyed reading, gardening and traveling with his wife and family. One of his favorite things was family gatherings of all types and particularly valued the times with his grandchildren John, Alison, Sara and Gabriella. John and Pat were inseparable and were married 61 years
John was brother to Alfred Sanguinetti and Gloria Harlow (deceased), Father in Law to Melissa, Tammy and Sue Sanguinetti with several nieces and nephews of the Sanguinetti and Gallagher clans.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday October 30th at 2:00pm at Holy Spirit Church, 37588 Fremont Blvd., Fremont, CA 94536. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Wounded Warriors Project.

John was in the bunker with my father, Ray Weber. My father had a chest wound with much trouble breathing. John circled around the inside of the bunker, grabbing the rifles of the Japanese as they shoved them into the observation slots and pulling the rifles from their hands. Daddy said John always wore a bandana around his brow. They were saved the next morning. By then my father had lost consciousness. John likely saved my Dad's life. Daddy died in 2017.
