June Stevenson Obituary

June Ross Stevenson
July 5, 1933-October 19, 2013
Resident of Lafayette
Passed away October 19, 2013 after a long fight for life over many years with multiple health problems. She died peacefully with her daughter and good friend Lois Daane present and soon joined by her husband Bill.
Born to Alfred and Zelma Robinson in Mineola, New York, June grew up in Texas, first in Corpus Christi and later in the little town of Comfort in the Texas Hill Country and San Antonio. She attended Texas Womans' University, graduating at the age of eighteen and obtaining her masters degree in teaching and music. After teaching for three years in San Antonio, she travelled to Venezuela to teach in an Exxon affiliate staff school. She met her future husband Bill in Eastern Venezuela before being transferred to Western Venezuela where she became principal of one of the staff schools. She returned to the United States in 1960 to teach in the Monterey, California school system when she and Bill met again, as he had left Exxon to attend the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Upon Bill's graduation, June and Bill were married and began a lifelong saga of love, travel and service.
She and Bill began their marriage honeymooning on the Island of Majorca prior to going to Paris where Bill was consulting to TWA European management. Upon completion of that assignment they began around the world trip prior to settling in La Canada Flintridge in Los Angeles where Bill was employed to develop the natural resources division for a California bank. While living in Los Angeles, June became President of the Los Angeles Music and Art School, developing young artists. Upon Bill's transfer to San Francisco, June became very busy raising her two young children, Susan and Billy and became active in school programs and PEO, a woman's philanthropy for womans' advanced education.
While raising two children, her lust for travel was never dampened. Over the years, she and Bill have visited over one hundred countries, encompassing the globe from the Antarctic to Arctic. While on a cruise to the North Cape, where she and Bill renewed their wedding vows on their 50th anniversary on board the ship, she completed her "bucket list". After celebrating her 80th birthday on July 5th, she was at peace with her life and was prepared to meet her Lord.
Throughout her life June enjoyed family and friends, participating in family reunions in Texas, dinner clubs, sports, particularly football, as well as her world travels with her husband and friends.
June is survived by her dedicated husband Bill, and children Beth and Bill and brother Bob (Bobbie) and brother in law Bob Stevenson (Jo Ann).
A Memorial service for June will be held on Tuesday, October 29th at 2:00PM at Lafayette Orinda Presbyterian Church, Knox Drive, Lafayette.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made in June's name to Lafayette Orinda Presbyterian Church, or Texas Woman's University in Denton, Texas.
