Lars Nagel Obituary

Lars William Nagel Aug. 22, 1954 - May 15, 2007 Resident of Alamo Beloved husband of Cathy Nagel and devoted father of Carlie Nagel; youngest son of Karl and Ilona Nagel; brother of Eric Nagel and Joanne Connolly; treasured son-in-law of Tony and Marge Bartkoski; brother-in-law to Bob and Sandy Bartkoski; and caring uncle to Karen Nagel, Alfred Shaw and Sophia Siskel, and Becky and Tony Bartkoski. Lars was born in Chicago, Illinois, and graduated from Frankfurt International School in 1972. He then attended the American College of Switzerland and graduated from New England College of New Hampshire with a degree in business. Lars worked in the telecommunications industry for the past 30 years enjoying high praise and success, and a genuine camaraderie with his peers. He enjoyed participating in whitewater rafting, snow skiing, golfing, soccer, basketball, and track and field. His love and knowledge of sports made him a natural mentor and coach, as well an appreciative spectator for his daughter Carlie. Lars touched many of our lives with his quick-witted sense of humor, his competitive spirit, and his intense passion for athletics and life. Lars was diagnosed with chondrosarcoma, a rare form of cancer, two years ago. He bravely fought the disease with love and support of his family and many wonderful friends. Family and friends are invited to his Funeral Mass on Saturday, May 19, 2007 at 1 p.m. at St. Isidore's Catholic Church, 440 La Gonda Way, Danville, CA. Cathy and Carlie invite you to a reception celebrating the Life of Lars immediately following the Mass in the St. Isidore's Room. Donations can be sent in memory of Lars Nagel to the Bruns House, 2849 Miranda Ave., Alamo, CA 94507. Wilson & Kratzer - Danville (925) 820-2999

I was deeply saddened to hear the news about Lars last night after his long and valiant battle. Lars and I met in the early 80's when we were working in the telecom industry in the Bay area. We even shared a home for several years in San Francisco and that's when I also had the pleasure of getting introduced to Cathy when they started dating. Distance may have made it difficult to get together in recent years, but the Nagel family has continued to be in my thoughts and prayers. I regret that I won't be able to attend the services, but I will be there in spirit. My love to Cathy and Carlie and my deepest sympathies to their immediate family and close friends.

I was so very sad to hear about Lars. My friend, Jan Hampshire, called me today to tell me. Lars, Jan and I attended the American College of Switzerland together. What great memories I have of Lars, his wonderful sense of humor, his love of skiing and fun. All my best to all of you.

To Lars' family,

I am a long-ago friend of Lars' from our days at the American College of Switzerland. I have nothing but happy memories of so many days spent skiing together, evenings with friends at the Brac (village pub), and loads of laughter. I am so sorry about your loss and pray that the happy memories I'm sure you also have will sustain you through this terribly hard time. Blessings, Jan Hampshire Cummins

Dear Cathy and Carlie,
We are heart-broken. You have been in our thoughts and prayers. I remember all those days on the pool deck for league championships. Getting sunburn and screaming for our angels to swim their hearts out! And Carlie always did! We have so many wonderful memories of our time at St. Isidore. God bless you and keep you.
