Mark Rotner Obituary

Mark Gerald Rotner
February 20, 1947 - December 6, 2021
Resident of Concord
Mark Gerald Rotner of Concord, CA passed away on Monday, December 6, 2021 with his beloved wife, Pamela (Pam) and his two children, Melissa and Eric, by his side.
A longtime Bay Area resident, Mark was born February 20, 1947 in Oakland, CA, and spent the better part of his life in the East Bay where he raised Melissa and Eric with his first wife, Gayle, after completing his degree at Cal State Fullerton. Mark was extremely involved in his kids' sports, coaching baseball and setting up the blocks before their swim meets. As the owner of a successful small business, Valley Office Supply, Mark provided hundreds of schools and small businesses across the country with educational and office tools, while forging memorable connections with the many he encountered along the way.
Throughout his life, Mark placed an emphasis on learning and sought out knowledge via conversations with others and through reading multiple newspapers and news sources. Mark especially enjoyed speaking with his daughter-in-law, Sara about the medical field and his son-in-law, Ryan, about solar and the market, and trying to figure out exactly what Melissa does for a living during his many marathon calls with her.
When he met Pamela, Mark rediscovered a love of traveling and they would often take trips throughout the US, concentrating on coastal towns in California and Mark's favorite Hawaiian island, Maui, the place they wed in a private ceremony in 2003. When not traveling, Mark spent a lot of time with his grandchildren and, despite not being related to many of them by blood, he treated them all as his own, spending hours watching their games and performances, building lego structures and teaching them the fine art of sarcasm and practical jokes.
Next to Pam and his grandchildren, Mark loved animals and was a supporter of rescue organizations. He was known to go out of his way to give animals, especially cats, a better life, and one time built a maze of boxes for a feral cat he found in his warehouse.
Mark leaves a large hole in the hearts of his family. He is survived by his wife of nearly 20 years Pamela Ann Rotner; his children Melissa Dixon and Eric Rotner and their spouses, Ryan Dixon and Sara Rotner; his stepchildren Kimberly and Matt Angell; his brothers John and Glen Rotner; and his grandchildren Kyle, Kate, Jill, Riley, Piper, Siena, Bryn and Lillian – all who have many fond memories of his childlike spirit and "straight talk" humorous manner.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to hug your loved ones a bit tighter and consider donating to your favorite animal rescue in his honor.

Mark gave me my first job out of high school working along side him at Valley Office Supply. I`ve always remembered listening to the Giants baseball games and stacking boxes in his new Tacoma (which I crashed) to make deliveries with him and our daily 2 hr commutes. Just tonight I was telling my kids about him as it related to past jobs I´ve had, which led me to finding out about his passing. Very sad to hear. Thoughts with his family at this time.
