Ottone Grego Obituary

Ottone Paul Grego Nov. 17, 1916 - Jan. 17, 2008 Resident of Antioch Cherished father of Christine Meairs and Dolores Murphy, caring brother-in-law of Fedora Ghilarducci, and very proud nonno of Sarah and Jason Meairs, and Michelle and Scott Murphy. He has gone on to join his beloved wife Remigia Grego. Ottone died on January 17, 2008 at the age of 91. He was born on November 17, 1916 in Trieste, Italy. He first came to the United States as an Italian prisoner of war in 1943. While still interred at Camp Knight in Oakland, he met and fell in love with his then wife-to-be, Remigia. Ottone and Remigia were married for 58 years before she preceded him in death. They lived in Piedmont for 40 years where they created and shared many happy moments with family and friends. In 2004 they moved to Rossmoor, and more recently to Antioch. "Tony" retired from Pacific Intermountain Express in 1983 where he spent his career as a master mechanic. He loved his life and his family, was always grateful for them, and helped many others along the way. Friends and family are invited to a Funeral Mass on Wednesday, January 23, 2008, at 10:30 am at St. Isidore's Church, 440 La Gonda Way in Danville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to: Salesian Missions, 2 LeFevre Lane, P.O. Dear Dolores, Christine and Families,
I was so sorry to see of your father's passing in the paper. I am sorry I could not attend the services. But I will always remember both he and your mother, especially from the 44th Street days. My sincerest sympathies to all.

To Christine, Dolores, and the entire family---
Again, please accept my condolences on the passing of your patriarch and as you so eloquently put it in the eulogy, humble guy. Tony was definitely one of the most admired and beloved friends of our family from the Italian POW's. It was always a treat to sit down and spend a few moments listening to him relating stories about life in general, especially from our Italian way of view. Grazie, Tony.
