Resident of Layfayette
Wally passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side. He is survived by his wife of 48 years Patricia and 3 daughters, Stacy (Cary) Schirmer, Remi (Jim) Vranesh and Amy (Ben) O"Connor and 11 grandchildren - Nicholas, Kate, Caroline and Tess Schirmer, Sidney, Sarah and William Vranesh and Julia, Clara, Emma and Henry O'Connor. He was the youngest of 9 siblings born and raised in Alameda. In his youth he was a proficient athlete excelling in baseball. He served in the US Army during the Korean war where he suffered a life altering disability during training. In his adult years he developed a passion and aptitude for golf. He never missed a round and often shot below his age. He was a self-made man with a tremendous work ethic, owning an operating several businesses. He worked hard 7 days a week. Only taking time off for an annual family vacation to Hawaii. He had a special love for the Hawaiian Islands. Both of his parents were from the island of Kauai and it continued to be a place near and dear to his heart all through his life. He instilled that love of "Aloha" in his wife and 3 daughters. Wally was an avid storyteller and practical joker. He had friends wherever he went. He was loved and admired by all who met him. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Souza Family:
So sorry to hear about Wally's passing...I just found out. Had so much fun golfing with Wally in Discovery Bay and remembering our childhood in Alameda.
