My heartfelt condolences go to Bill´s family as we mourn the loss of a great friend. I first met Bill in 1983 when I was assigned as the special education nurse liaison to students in mainstreamed classrooms. I was immediately impressed by Bill´s dedication to his students and the amazing work centers he had created in his classroom. It also became apparent he was very skilled with every tool imaginable. Ask him how to fix something and he not only knew the answer but had the right tool for the job. He kept in touch with many of his students who went on to productive jobs in the community. That is the greatest gift of being a teacher - knowing you had a part in the success of your students.
When Eric and I retired to Colorado Springs Bill and Joan visited several times since she had lived here. We always enjoyed their company and she had fun exploring places she remembered from her time here. When we moved my dad to the Springs Bill volunteered to drive him while Eric and I drove the moving van. Two days on the road and my dad loved every minute of chatting with Bill. I´ll always be grateful for that gift of time.
Our travels together wound down with Bill´s diagnosis and our contact became daily FaceTime interactions. Although cancer sapped his strength his personality remained upbeat and positive. Eric and I are blessed that we had his friendship for as many years as we did and he will always remain in our hearts. Godspeed!
