Joan Sexton

Joan Lyles Sexton, age 75, of Thurmond, passed away Monday, Aug. 15, 2022, at Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. Mrs. Sexton was born Jan. 15, 1947, in Surry County to Charlie Lyles and Virgie Mae Isaacs Lyles. Mrs. Sexton attended Charity Hill Baptist Church and sang in the Charity Hill Gospel Quartet for many years. She was a graduate of Surry Central High School and retired from Chatham Manufacturing. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 22 years, Rev. Dennis Sexton. Survivors include her brother, Wayne Lyles and his wife Jenny of State Road; nephews, Michael Lyles (Melissa) of Statesville, Jaysun Lyles (Lisa) of Marion; great-nieces and nephew, Hayley Taylor Kehler (Daniel), Salem-Grace Lyles, Courtney Taylor, Wynston Lyles; and loyal canine companion, Brownie. A funeral service will be conducted Sunday, Aug. 21, at 3 p.m. at Charity Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Cardwell, Rev. Marvin Blackburn, and Rev. Don Hudson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 – 3 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Rd., Dobson, NC 27017.
