JACKIE HOLMES

Jackie M. Holmes, 76, of El Paso, TX, passed away on Wednesday April 17, 2013 in El Paso. Jackie was born in McKinney, Texas to AZ and Lorene Holmes on September 17, 1936. He worked as a yard master and conductor for Southern Pacific Railroad for 42 years when he retired in 1997. He was an avid pilot, and owned and operated an air transport company. He was also involved in the land development of Westway, TX. He was key to several businesses around El Paso. He loved the outdoors, with fishing and hunting some of his favorite past times, but his true passion was flying. He was known for his ornery sense of humor but was well loved. Jackie is preceded in death by his parents, AZ and Lorene Holmes, his son Bruce Alan Holmes and loving wife Linda Holmes. Jackie is survived by his children Jacklene (Stephan) Schott of Clarksville, TN., Donald (Gloria) Holmes of Dallas TX, Kimberly (David) Long of Layton UT., and Richard Holmes of El Paso, TX. Brother AZ (Janet) Holmes of Chaparral, NM, 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, 2 nephews and 1 niece. A Visitation will be held at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass, on Friday April 19, 2013, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park, 4848 Alps, on April 20, 2013 at 12:00pm. He will be sorely missed but we are grateful that he has finally found peace and rest.
