James Popoff Obituary

James Popoff James Popoff, 87, a resident of West Lakes Woods and formerly of Lakeside Dr., died Sunday, September 3, 2006 at St. Mary’s Home, Asbury Ridge. He was born October 17, 1918 in Harwick, Pa., the son of the late Evan and Agnes Koval Popoff. James was a 1936 graduate of East High School and had served with the US Army during WW II. He worked for the US Postal Service for 32 years and was a long-time member and officer of the CYS Club. He was a member of the East Erie Turners and the Russian Orthodox Church of the Nativity. Jim was also active in the 818th Tank Destroyer Battalion group. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Zuravleff Popoff; a brother, Daniel Popoff; and four sisters, Lucy Peganoff, Ann Melnitsky, Viola Phillips and Agnes Popoff. Jim is survived by three sons, James Popoff and his wife, Chris, of Murrells Inlet, S.C., Logan Popoff and his wife, Mary Ann, of Erie, and Gary Popoff and his wife, Pam, of Mass.; along with a daughter, Sonya Popoff-Hobbs, and her husband, Pat Hobbs, of Houston, Texas. He is the brother of Fr. Deacon Philip Popoff and his wife, Jean, of Erie; and is also survived by six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Private funeral services will be held in the Russian Orthodox Church of the Nativity with burial to be in St. John in the Divine Cemetery.
