Loving wife, mother, and friend

Joanne M. Sivillo, age 39, of Erie, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 1, 2014, shortly before bringing her first child into the world. Joanne was born in Newburgh, N.Y on September 3, 1974, a daughter of James and the late Winifred Berube Smith.

Joanne was a second grade teacher at Diehl Elementary School in Erie, a job she loved and in which she was loved by many.

She is survived by her loving husband, Jeremy Sivillo; their miraculous newborn daughter, Estelle Sivillo; and her dear sister, Jayme Smith, all of Erie. In addition, Joanne is survived by an abundance of loving family and friends.

A memorial mass and celebration of Joanne's life will be announced in the near future, once baby Estelle comes home from UPMC-Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. Those who wish to follow the journey of baby Estelle are encouraged to visit "Joanne and Jeremy's Miracle Baby Estelle" on Facebook.

Dear Mr. Sivillo,
You and Mrs. Sivillo had a wonderful, beautiful baby girl, she's beautiful, just like her mother and we will always remember Mrs. Sivillo. She was beautiful, kind, inspiring, sweet, and caring. I was one of her second grade students at Deihl Elementary, in 2011-2012. I am currently in 6th grade and haven't forgot Mrs. Sivillo, and never will. She was 'best teachr' is what I wrote in my yearbook when I was young. She gave me these dolls called worry dolls because I worried a lot. And my mom always saw Mrs. Sivillo & you at the Italian festivals. I wasn't there because I was at my fathers home. I'm not sure if Mrs. Sivillo said anything about me, or if you remember my mom from the Italian festivals. But anyway, you are a great father and Estelle is beautiful. You did an amazing job, Mr. Sivillo, and Mrs. Sivillo. Love and Prayers from Me & My family. God bless you & your family.

Someone had asked in a note on here if there is going to be a viewing. In the future, there will be a mass honoring Joanne. As per her request in life, she did not want a viewing and wished to be cremated. I just wanted to share the information.

Jeremy we were so upset to here about the earthly departure of mrs sivillo she was my daughters teach a few years ago. She was an excellent teacher but an even better person. I'll never forget how you guys took personal time from your own schedule to come to Trinity's dance recital. The Bible says to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord she's in heaven watching over you and that beautiful baby. Keeping your family in our thoughts and prayers.

You have my sincerest sympathy. I am so saddened to hear about Mrs. Sivillo.
I had the opportunity to meet her a few years ago when she taught my older daughter and she was also my youngest daughter's teacher this past school-year at Diehl.
She was an outstanding teacher who wanted only the best for my children, whom she treated as her own. It's not very often that one can find a teacher as dedicated and selfless as she was.
I will truly miss her. You are and will always be in my prayers.

I worked with Jayme for 12 years at Burton. I know how close JoAnne, Jayme and Jeremy are. Every time I would see you downtown you were together. Estelle is born into a close, loving family. I pray for all of you. I am so sorry for your loss! I wish both Jeremy and Jayme some peace and happiness. Losing a wife and sister is terrible. I know you will both be there for Estelle.
