Joseph L. "Joe" Sample

Joseph L. "Joe" Sample, age 60, of Erie, died unexpectedly, Sunday, January 12, 2014 at Saint Vincent Health Center.

He was born February 16, 1953 in Panama, N.Y., a son of the late Carol (Hoover) Sample and Roger Sample. He had worked at Murphy's, Bonded Services and at Larry's Central Market, for the past 18 years. He enjoyed bingo, the casino, traveling and making wind chimes. He loved the outdoors and riding his three wheeler bike. Joe was a special person who was loved by everyone who knew him.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a niece, Ashley Ortiz.

He is survived two sisters, Cheryl Sample (Wilson Garcia), Carol Sample (David Santana); one brother, Albert Nicholas, all of Erie; three nephews, Julio Quiles, Wilfredo Ortiz, Jr., and Joel Ortiz; two nieces, Rebecca Sample and Ana (Quiles) Hatcher; uncle, Floyd Pissanos (Jean), of Hornell, N.Y., aunt, Karen Pissanos and nieces, of Erie. Also surviving are many cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews, special cousins, Bonnie and Herman, and two dear friends, Helen Abbey and Joe Murphy.

Friends may call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Wednesday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., and may attend a service at the Funeral Home, on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Erie Cemetery.
