Rita A. Kutz Hammer

1926 - 2016

Rita A. Kutz Hammer, 90, of Erie, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at St. Mary's Home East. She was born in Erie on July 11, 1926, a daughter of the late Joseph and Antoinette Lucas Kutz.

Rita originally worked as an inspector at Hayes Manufacturing Co. and went on to work at Sanner Office Supply in customer service until retiring in 1998. Following retirement, she worked at K-Mart. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church and was an avid reader. She enjoyed crafts.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Hammer; one son, Patrick Hammer and his wife, Pearl; two sisters, Mary Majchrzak and Henrietta Jackson; four brothers, Walter, Bernard, Stanley, and Chester Kutz; and one step-brother, Max Kutz.

Survivors include two grandsons, Robert Hammer of Los Angeles, Calif. and Alan Schultz of Erie; eight great-grandchildren, Trista, Kayla, Kelly, Catherine, Rachel, Sydney, Alan, Jr., and Jacob Schultz; five great-great-grandchildren; her former daughter-in-law, Evie Sornberger of Erie; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. and are invited to services there on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
