Walter Ulmer Obituary
Walt moved to Erie in 1969 and later went on to marry his wife of 38 years, Mary Alice (Morgan) Ulmer. He was an active member of the Mount Ebal Missionary Baptist Church, where he was the president of the board of trustees, along with other duties.
Walt is a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he earned numerous citations, commendations and medals, including the Purple Heart.
Walt Ulmer "Newt" was preceded in death by his parents Wallace and Vanilla Ulmer and by a daughter Tamara Uvon Ulmer.
He is survived by his wife Mary Alice (Morgan) Ulmer, daughter Sonya Cherise Ulmer, and five grandchildren Jaron William Ulmer, Jazmyn Uvon Szymczak, Jalen Walter Szymczak, Nova Beasley and Darion Beasley. He also leaves behind three brothers Cleveland Ulmer (the late Mary L.), Lee Ulmer (Earnestine) of Erie, Bill Ulmer (Barbara) of Orangeburg, S.C. and four sisters Josephine Newell (Jimmy C.) of Erie, Claudia Ulmer McRae (the late Louis McRae), Essmarie Morris, and Mary M. "Lola" Ulmer, all of Houston, Texas.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Mt. Ebal Missionary Baptist Church, 1617 East 26th Street. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 5th at 11 a.m. at the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 901 E. 5th St., Rev. Derrick Ulmer, of Central Baptist Church, Pittsburgh, Pa., officiating, and Rev. Cleveland Ulmer, Pastor of Mount Ebal Missionary Baptist Church, Erie, Pa., eulogizing. Interment will be at the Erie County Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Pitts Funeral Home.
