John Hansen Obituary
Spring Grove
John L. Hansen, 93, passed away at home on February 18, 2016. He was the loving husband of Virginia L. (Parr) Hansen Together they shared over 67 years of marriage.
John was born in Rockville, Minn., one of twelve children of Aloysius and Susan (Dockendorf) Hansen.
He retired from the U.S. Navy and the Coast Guard after 20 years of service. After moving to Spring Grove, he worked for York Graphic Services until his retirement in 1985.
In addition to his wife, Virginia, he is survived by his four sons, John C. Hansen and wife, Karen of Spring Grove, Michael Hansen and wife, Karen of Tallahassee, Fla., Andrew Hansen and wife, Nora of Bozeman, Mont., Timothy Hansen and wife, Leigh of Spring Grove; and his five grandchildren, Winslow, Laura, Haynes, Susan, and Gregory.
During John's life, he served on the Spring Grove Area School Board, the Spring Grove Lions Club, the Heidelberg Township Zoning Hearing Board and the Spring Grove Library Board.
John had a great appreciation of trees and nature; he planted hundreds of walnut, ash and oak trees on his farm during his retirement. He also loved to fish and was an avid reader of hundreds of books and periodicals.
Services and Interment are being held privately by the family under the direction of Irwin-Beck Funeral Home and Cremation Service Inc. of Spring Grove.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to VNA of Hanover and Spring Grove, 440 Madison St., Hanover PA 17331.
