Robert Cashman Obituary

Robert J. Cashman, 82, entered into God's eternal care at 12:05 a.m., Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, at the Brethren Home Nursing Community, New Oxford. Born May 22, 1922, in New Oxford, he was the son of the late Mervin A. and Nettie A. (Miller) Cashman. He was the husband of Jean L. (Artley) Cashman with whom he would have celebrated his 62nd wedding anniversary Dec. 31, 2004. Robert was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, York Street, Hanover. He was also a member and a past Exalted Ruler of the Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks 763, Hanover; the American Legion Post 14 of Hanover; and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2506 of Hanover. He attended Eichelberger High School in Hanover and was affiliated with the class of 1941. Robert served in the United States Army as a Tech Sergeant during World War II and he was a recipient of the Purple Heart. During this time he was stationed in Germany, France and England. Mr. Cashman retired from Snyder's of Hanover after several years of service as a District Sales Manager. In addition to his wife Jean, Robert is survived by two sons, Bradley R. Cashman of Carlisle and Brian L. Cashman of Hanover; a daughter, Karen J. Grimes of Manchester; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, James Cashman of Thomasville. He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 127 York Street, Hanover, with his pastor, the Rev. Timothy J. Kielley, officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover. Visitation will be held 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church. The Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, is in charge of arrangements. Full military honors will be provided by the Allied Veterans Honor Guard of Hanover. Serving as casket bearers will be Robert's grandsons, Corey D. Messinger, Barton R. Cashman, Burton R. Cashman, Brenton R. Cashman, Bradley R. Cashman, Jr., Christian W. Cashman and Brian L. Cashman, Jr. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 127 York Street, Hanover, PA 17331; or to the American Heart Association, 2997 Cape Horn Road, Suite B-2, Red Lion, PA 17356-9329.
