Anna Thompson Obituary

Anna Faye (Burks) Thompson of Bartlesville passed away at Adams Parc Nursing Home on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at age 93. Services will be held at 2 pm, Monday, January 21, 2013 in the Stumpff Funeral Home Chapel with Kristy Rogers of First Presbyterian Church officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Stumpff Funeral Home and Crematory. The family cordially invites friends and family to a visitation to be held at Stumpff Funeral Home in Bartlesville from 4-6 pm, Sunday, January 20, 2013.
Ann was the youngest child born October 27, 1919 in Canyon, Texas to Thomas Frank and Viva Vashti (South) Burks. Ann was raised on a farm near Dumas, TX with four brothers and three sisters. She received her education from the Dumas Elementary and High Schools, graduating in 1934. Upon graduation, Ann worked in a general store and dress shop as an assistant manager and marketer. On December 23, 1935, Ann married James Herschel Mills in Amarillo, TX, they later divorced. Ann and Herschel had one daughter, Flora Ann, born on July 8, 1940. Ann also attended two years of business school, after which she worked as an accountant for both Brown and Root Co and Chemical Construction Co in Cactus, Texas. Here she met George Edwin Thompson, and they married on February 11, 1951. After a short time in Albuquerque, NM with Sandia Corporation, George and Ann moved to Bartlesville with Phillips Petroleum Company. In Bartlesville, Ann sang with the Sweet Adelines, played bridge, and was a member of the Iris Garden Club. She was a supportive mother to Flora Ann and volunteered with her school activities. George and Ann joined First Presbyterian Church, where Ann volunteered to keep the financial records of the youth budget. In 1963, George and Ann were transferred to Madrid, Spain with Phillips Petroleum Co, and during this time they enjoyed traveling in Spain and Europe. They returned to Bartlesville in 1965, and Ann continued to enjoy her hobbies of gardening, cooking and reading. George retired from Phillips in 1980, and they continued to reside in Bartlesville. Serious health issues starting in 2007 caused Ann and George to move to Green Country Retirement Village, and later nursing homes. George preceded Ann in death on October 6, 2010. She was also preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings.
Ann is survived by her daughter, Flora Ann (Mills) Paul and husband, Robert; granddaughter Tricia Ann (Paul) Richards and husband, Duane; great-granddaughters Andrea Shaffer and husband Aaron; Sarah Phelps and husband Lance; and Calli Ann Richards; and great-great-grandchildren Isaac and Nevaeh Phelps.
Ann was a loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and GGma and she will be greatly missed.
