Joe Rook Obituary

Memorial services for Mr. Joe Dale Rook will be held Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Stewart Family Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Roy Woods officiating. A private interment will follow at a later date under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.
Joe Dale Rook, age 87, resident of Tyler, formerly of Bartlesville, OK, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2014, at Mother Francis Hospital in Tyler.
He was born July 10, 1926, in Miami, OK to the late Clarence and Hazel Rook.
Mr. Rook was a World War II veteran. After receiving training in Tyler, TX at Camp Fannin in 1944, he served in the Red Diamond Fifth Division of the U.S. Army in Europe during the Battle of the Bulge. Joe was awarded the Bronze Star among his other commendations. He was an Elder in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. He attended the NEO A&M. Joe was a banker and a successful businessman with Prudential in Miami, Stillwater, Bartlesville, Oklahoma and Hobbs, New Mexico before retiring in 1982. He was an avid fisherman, golfer, and in his younger days, Joe loved softball and was a golden gloves boxer.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 65 years, Betty Rook.
Mr. Rook is survived by his daughter, Janet Vann and her husband Dudley of Tyler; grandchildren, Keri Rowland and her husband David of Hobbs, New Mexico, Sheri Yielding of Carrollton, and Derrick Vann and his wife Michelle of Tyler, along with 5 great grand daughters and one great grandson.

Janet - I am so sorry for your loss. I knew your dad and mom very well and went on a couple of vacations with them. They were great people and always fun to be around. Had lost touch with them over the years but always think of them fondly.
