Mark was born in Orange County California on February 11, 1955 to Estil Archie Elvington and Delores Miesen.
Mark was an avid Boy Scout and enjoyed the outdoors, he was especially proud to have earned the title of the youngest person to climb Mt Whitney (the tallest mountain in the "lower 48" states) when he was but 10 years old. Just one example of Marks determination when it came to something he wanted to accomplish.
In his early teens the family moved to Barnsdall, OK. Mark graduated Barnsdall High School in 1974. Mark was a sportsman whose favorite sport was wrestling. He was known to have pinned every person he wrestled and won many awards. He earned a full scholarship to OU where he planned to study radiology until a sporting accident caused him to have to stop wrestling.
Disheartened by the accident but not one to give up Mark pursued other interests and went on to become a very talented machinist who was well respected and sought after in the industry. He was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Union Local 523. Mark was very active with the Union and was a Steward for the Crosby McKissick Group in Tulsa from which he eventually retired.
In 2004 Mark met and married Pamela Diane Barnes the woman he referred to as the "love he had been waiting for all his life". With that marriage come two sons, William and Joseph Bennett. All three of them were Marks pride and joy and he quickly assumed the role of a husband and father as if he had done it all his life. He wanted nothing but the best for his family and would fight tooth and nail to be sure they had everything they needed. On April 27, 2011 he became a grandfather to Ms. Paislie Sue Bennett and on that day his life was complete. He was the proudest grandfather ever there were. This "baby girl" brought immeasurable happiness into his heart.
Mark never missed an opportunity to try a new adventure or to make a new friend. Mark was sure to never let old friends be forgotten either. Once he was your friend he was yours forever. He was always sure to keep in touch with them. He played an active role in their lives and was sure to celebrate when they celebrated and grieve when they grieved. He was a true friend that would help in anyway he could, from a place to lay their head, a meal to warm their belly or simply an ear to listen. Mark was reliable, trustworthy, faithful, loyal, and steadfast to the very end.
Mark loved the Lord Jesus and was never ashamed to share his faith in God. He would share with anyone who would listen regarding his life experiences and how the Lord saw him through each one.
Mark is survived by his loving wife of 10 years, Pamela Diane Elvington, his two sons, William Bennett Jr and Joseph S Bennett, his mother-in-law, Mary Barnes, two brothers, David Elvington and Paul Elvington, one sister, Catherine Haynes, uncles, cousins and many nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Susan (Elvington) Brewington, and his father-in-law, Mr. Jim Barnes Sr.
