Michael D. Hopp, 72, of Waupun, died Tuesday, November 6, 2012, at his home with his loving family by his side.

Michael was born November 24, 1939, in Fond du Lac County, the son of James and Martha Kok Hopp. Michael worked at Mercury Marine in Fond du Lac, in various management positions for 28 years, retiring in 1993. He was enlisted in the U.S. Navy for four years. On June 19, 1964, he married Doris Wessels at Alto Reformed Church. Michael was a baptized charter member of Trinity Reformed Church, where he served as deacon, elder, Sunday school teacher, and youth leader. He served on Sharecare, loved group visiting and doing shut-ins weekly. Michael was a member of American Legion. He was an avid Chicago Bears fan and named his companion dog "Bear." Michael enjoyed hunting in his younger years, and always loved a good, clean joke. He loved his family, children, grandchildren, was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all who knew him.

Michael is survived by his wife, Doris A. Hopp; a daughter, Dawn M. (Mark) Van Buren of Waupun; a son, Dean M. (Laura) Hopp of West Allis; grandchildren, Heather and Holly Van Buren of Waupun; Mitchel and Olivia Hopp of West Allis; sisters, Nancy Sherlock of Waupun; and Lori (James) Houck of TX; brothers, Daniel (Maria) Hopp of Waupun; and Joel (Sheila) Hopp of Fond du Lac; sisters-in-law, Ruth Ehlts of Waupun; and Laurene Schumann of Evansville; nieces, nephews, many friends, relatives, and neighbors.

Michael was preceded in death by his father in 1988; his mother in 2012; father-in-law, Allen Wessels in 1975; mother-in-law, Dorothy Wessels in 1979; and six brothers-in-law, Henry Vossekuil, Harold Adams, M.D., Ray Sherlock, Ed Schumann, Marvin Ehlts, and Alton Wessels.

A memorial has been established in Mike's name with the American Heart Association.

Funeral services for Michael D. Hopp will be held Saturday, November 10, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Reformed Church in Waupun, with Rev. John White officiating. Burial will follow at Alto Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call on the family on Friday at Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Saturday at church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. American Legion Post 210 of Waupun will provide the military honors.
