CRICHTON, Mr. James W. - Age 90, passed away Sunday, August 21, 2011 at Genesys Hospice Center. Memorial Service 10 a.m. today, August 25, 2011 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. There will be no public viewing. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Optimist International Foundation, 4494 Lindell Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63108. Mr. James Washington Crichton was born November 5, 1921 in St. Vincent in the Grenadines, West Indies. As a young man he moved to Canada and served in the Canadian Army as a Medic during World War II. While serving he traveled throughout Western Europe. At the end of the war Mr. Crichton was a part of the Liberators in the Netherlands, Alamelo and The Hague where the Canadian Army liberated the Dutch. He subsequently moved to the United States in 1959 and made his residence in Flint for over 50 years. Mr. Crichton was active in the community as a Businessman and Politician. He retired from Buick, a division of General Motors in 1985 after 35 years of service and was a member of UAW Local 599. Additionally, James was a well-known Bail Bondsman for over 50 years serving the greater Genesee County area. Further, he served on various local boards including the Flint Housing Commission, the Republican Party of Michigan and was a lifetime member of both the Central Flint Optimist Club and NAACP. Mr. James Washington Crichton leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Sandra D. Crichton of Flint; daughter, Veronica Crichton-Rochford of Virginia; 2 sons, Jimmie Crichton, The Netherlands and Norral McKenzie of St. Vincent, West Indies; grandchildren, Brendan and Tegan, both of Virginia, Esther, Yuan, Bianca, Alyshia and Joey, all of the Netherlands and Shuan of the United Kingdom; a host of great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Veronica Venner of Ontario, Canada and Marguerite Monroe of Dominica, West Indies; brothers, Horace Crichton of Miami, FL and George Crichton of St. Vincent, West Indies; a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends. Mr. Crichton was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lucy Crichton of St. Vincent, West Indies; and 6 brothers, Alfred of Ontario, Canada, Victor of the United Kingdom, Leonard, Francis, Edward and Edgerton, all of St. Vincent, West Indies.
