WIRTH, LOUIS F., JR.
Linden
Louis F. Wirth, Jr., age 96, passed away Thursday, October 10, 2013, with his wife Helen of 77 years by his side. Cremation has taken place. Louis was born in Bay City, Michigan, the son of Louis F. Wirth, Sr., and MaryAnn (Summerfield) Wirth. He graduated from Bay City Central High School in 1934, and married his high school sweetheart Helen A. Bowers on January 1, 1936. Louis enjoyed a successful 50-year career at The Dow Chemical Company, where he made significant contributions in the advancement of ion exchange resins. Louis and Helen were long-time residents of Midland, Michigan, and more recently were residents of Abbey Park retirement community in Grand Blanc, Michigan, where Louis would play the piano to entertain the residents. Louis is also survived by his daughter Janis Kay Bock (Cal) of Linden,
Michigan, son Donald Louis
(Linda) of Nashville, Tennessee, grandchildren Carol Dolata (Randy), Kristyn Godlew (Mark) and Jeremy Wirth (Kristy), and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held in Midland, Michigan. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital.

Lou was a true gentleman, and I learned a lot from him. Although we only worked together for a few years early in my Dow career, he made a lasting impression and remained a true friend over the years. I would certainly attend the funeral except that we are at our second home in Whitefish, Montana until the end of the month.
Our thoughts and prayers will be with you, Helen, and the family during these difficult times. I hope that as time passes the pleasant times you shared and good memories will comfort you. He made a significant impact on many people and his generosity touched many of us. It was a life well lived!
