Paul Schmid Obituary

Paul William Schmid

Gainesville, GA

Paul W. Schmid, 85, peacefully went to be with his Lord, Feb 14, at his home in Gainesville, GA. Paul spent most of his adult life as a resident of Titusville, FL. Paul joined the Army Corp of Engineers during the Korean War and worked in White Sands, NM with Werner VonBraun's team. It was while he worked for Chrysler Missile that he fell in love with his wife, Virginia Ilnisky. They married in 1958 and she joined him in Titusville. While with Chrysler Missile, Paul did design work on all the Redstone rockets. In 1963, he began working for NASA and continued there until 1997, when he retired. After retirement, Paul and Virginia were able to spend time traveling the world, until Paul suffered a major stroke in 2005. In 2007, Paul moved to Georgia to be closer to his son who could care for him.

Paul was a committed Christian and family man and worked diligently along with his wife to raise their children in the fear of the Lord.

Paul is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Virginia; his brother John and wife Ethel; son Bill and wife Suzanne; daughter Susan; son James and wife Tricia; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held 11am, Feb. 18th, New Covenant Church, 705 Harrison St, Titusville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Park Ave. Baptist Church or New Tribes Missions.

Memorial Park Funeral Home, 2030 Memorial Park Road, Gainesville, GA 30504 is in charge of arrangements.

Paul was the best of us. Thank you for sharing him with us. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren. Travel safely to Titusville and back.
We enjoyed his friendship, intellect and grace.
