Helen Verkey Obituary
Friends are invited to calling hours on Friday (March 9, 2018) from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Sanderson-Moore Funeral Home, Inc, 32 State St. Seneca Falls with funeral services Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Kevin Grish officiating. Spring interment will be at Spring Brook Cemetery in Seneca Falls.
In lieu of flowers kindly consider contributions to the Tyre United Methodist Church, Gravel Rd. Seneca Falls, 13148 or the Magee Fire Dept. 1807 Rt. 318, Seneca Falls, NY 13148.
Helen was born in Geneva, N.Y., the oldest daughter to Edward and Leona Phillips Johnson. She attended Sodus Central School before attending The Freeman Business School in Geneva. After raising her five children, she worked for the Seneca County Personal Dept. for over 20 years. She was a Life member of the Seneca Falls Elks, Tyre United Methodist Church, and the Magee Fire Department Auxiliary. She always enjoyed cooking for all family gatherings and attending all the family sporting events all over the county. Helen also enjoyed bowling, playing cards with friends and family members, and casinos in her later years.
Survived by daughter, Joanne (William) Woodard of Waterloo; sons Rodney (Charlene) of Tyre, Donald (Patti) of Plattsburg, Garry of Tyre, and Dennis (Mellisa) of Seneca Falls; three sisters Dorothy (Kenneth) Johnson of Sodus, Virginia DeFisher of Sodus, and Marian (George) Fletcher of Clyde; grandchildren Jason, Matthew (Jodie), Andrew (Kimmy), Christopher (Megan), Samantha (Adam) Trudeau, Michael and Nicholas Woodard, Dylan, Derik, Devin, Mackenzie Verkey; great-grandchildren Jason, Hayley, Ashlee, Madelyne, Peyton, Brielle, Ayla, Lexi, Gianna and Gabriella; great-great-grandson Jacob; three sisters-in- law Elizabeth Burcroff, Doris Johnson and Dolores Johnson; and many, many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her husband, Abraham J. Verkey in 2010; four brothers Donald, Daniel, John and Richard Johnson; and brothers-n-law John Verkey and Ronald Burcroff.

TO ALL THE VERKEY FAMILY. WE ARE SO SORRY TO HEAR OF YOUR GREAT MOM'S PASSING. SHE WAS A GRACIOUS LADY WHO LOVED HER FAMILY AND SHE NEVER MISSED A SPORTING EVENT TO WATCH HER CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN OR GREAT GRANDCHILDREN WHEN THEY WERE PLAYING AND IT DID NOT MATTER WHERE IT WAS AT.
