Charles "Frank" Bartgis

Mr. Charles Franklin "Frank" Bartgis, 82, of Frederick, Md., died Friday, July 9, 2004, at his residence. He was the husband of Sarah Ann Bartgis.

Born on June 4, 1922 in Frederick, Md., he was the son of the late Lewis G.C. Bartgis and Helen Louise Six Bartgis.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Frederick.

Mr. Bartgis graduated from Frederick High School in 1940 and attended Watkins Sheet and Metal School in 1949. He also attended a school on Work Methods and Standards in Rock Island, Ill., in 1958.

He was employed by Fort Detrick in the Frederick Cancer and Research Development Center for over 20 years.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945. He was a lifetime member and past Commander of VFW Post 3285. He was a member of the VFW Country Club. He was an avid golf player and got a hole in one at the VFW Country Club. He was a member of the SCAT team and won the Commander Club Champion.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Jenny W. Himes, of Monrovia, Md.; Deborah Louise Bartgis, of Frederick, Md.; David Kent Bartgis and wife Joanne, of Frederick, and Michael L. Bartgis and wife June, of Frederick, Md.; seven grandchildren, Daniel, Matthew, Travis, James and Jonathon Bartgis and Sarah and Rebecca Himes; a brother, John A. Bartgis; and many nieces and nephews.

He will also be remembered by special friends, Bob and Kay Morrow and Polly and Whitey Wetherald and many others.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Henry Lewis Bartgis.

The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, on Monday, July 12, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. where the services will be held on Tuesday, July 13 at 10 a.m.

Interment will be at Linden Hills Cemetery, Frederick.
