Donald Gladhill

1941 - 2018

Donald Lee Gladhill, age 76, of Woodsboro, died Monday, May 7, 2018, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, due to injuries sustained in a fall. He was surrounded by his family and friends in death, as in life. Born May 23, 1941 in Frederick, he was the son of the late John C. and Mary Alice Summers Gladhill. He was the husband of Gloria J. Gladhill, his beloved wife of 57 years.

Donald was the retired owner and operator of Gladhill Construction, having been in business for 45 years. He was a member of Woodsboro Evangelical Lutheran Church and was an active life member of the Woodsboro Volunteer Fire Co., previously serving as chief and a member of the board of directors. In 1992 Donald was appointed the building director for the construction of the Activities Complex which opened in 1994. He enjoyed fishing with his friends, volunteering and helping others in need and spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife he is survived by children, Donna Droneburg and husband Ted of Falling Waters , WV, Michael Gladhill and wife Barbie of Hagerstown and Beth Balog and husband Jim of Yorktown, VA; 5 grandchildren, Holly, Sarah and John Compton, Angela Morris and husband Jon and Cory Gladhill and fiancee Renee; 7 great grandchildren, Faith, Jacob and Asher Morris, Tyler Marcus, Cohen, Brensin and Gianni Compton and baby Gladhill due in October; other step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; sister, Grace Flanagan of Walkersville, brother, Richard Gladhill of Frederick and many nieces and nephews. A well-known and extremely well-liked individual, he will also be remembered in the community by numerous special friends and others.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 11 at the Activities Complex of the Woodsboro Volunteer Fire Co., 10307 Coppermine Rd., with Rev. Sean Delawder, pastor of St. John's U.C.C., Woodsboro and Rev. Joseph Lettrich, Donald's pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.

The family will receive friends at Hartzler Funeral Home, 404 S. Main St. Woodsboro, from 12 noon - 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 10, with a memorial service at 8:00 p.m. conducted by members of the Woodsboro Volunteer Fire Co.
