Dorothy Clever

1932 - 2023

Dorothy Faye Clever, 91, of Thurmont, Maryland, passed from this life on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at Heartfields at Frederick.

Born on February 7, 1932, in Fayetteville, PA, but moved during her childhood to Chewsville, MD and Newburg, PA.

Dorothy was the daughter of the late Rev. Elmer R. Andrews and Helen (Hafer) Andrews. She was the loving wife to Roy E. Clever. They were married for 74 years.

She graduated from Shippensburg High School and Shippensburg State Teachers College, where she loved drama and chorus. Returning to Maryland in 1958 she was employed as a teacher by the Frederick County Board of Education for 22 years.

Faith was of utmost importance in the lives of Dorothy and Roy. She was a long-standing member of Weller UMC and a teacher of both children, adults and a member of the choir.

Surviving are husband, Roy; children, Steven Clever and wife, Mary Ann, of Gainesville, GA, and Jennifer McGuire and husband, David, of Walkersville, MD; and daughter-in-law, Kim Clever, of Thurmont, MD; five grandchildren, Alison McGuire, Madelyn Clever, Ashley Palatiello and husband, Mike, Matthew Clever and wife, Adrianna, and Chelsea Miller and husband, Zak; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and a nephew.

Dorothy was preceded in death by two sons, Mark and Andrew Clever; and her brother, Rev. David Andrews.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 19, 2023 at Weller United Methodist Church, 101 Altamont Avenue in Thurmont.

A celebration of Dorothy's life journey will take place at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 19, 2023, at the church in Thurmont. Rev. Mark Eyler will officiate. Memorial donations may be made, in her name, to Frederick County Humane Society, Animal Welfare League of Frederick County, Weller U.M.C., or a charity of your choice.
