Gertrude Scovner Obituary

Mrs. Gertrude Shirley Whittcoff Scovner, 96, of Berry Rose Court, Frederick, died Monday, July 8, at her home.

She was the wife of Dr. George Joseph Scovner, who died July 1963. They were married in 1933.

Born April 30, 1906, in New York, she was a daughter of the late Isaac and Esther Minkoff Whittcoff.

Mrs. Scovner grew up in Elizabeth, N.J., graduated from a teaching college in Newark, N.J., and taught elementary school for three years.

Following her marriage she lived in Brooklyn, N.Y., where her husband had a medical practice.

Mrs. Scovner was known for her dinner parties and was an active member of Hadassah.

Surviving are two sons, Edward Scovner and wife Nancy of Enfield, N.H., and Dr. Robert Scovner and wife Linda of Frederick; three grandsons, Dr. Michael Scovner and wife Myra of Manchester Center, Vt., Richard Scovner and wife Judy of Fairport, N.Y., and Jonathan Scovner of Knoxville; and four great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Scovner was preceded in death by one brother, Phillip Whittcoff; and one sister, Lillian Gersh.

Interment will be in Wellwood Cemetery, Farmingdale, N.Y.

Private memorial services will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are by Stauffer Funeral Home, Frederick.
