Larry Ahalt Obituary

Larry Milburn Ahalt, 71, Jefferson, died unexpectedly on Monday January 7, 2019 at his home. He was the companion and special mate of Betty Long of Knoxville.

Born in Frederick on April 22, 1947 he was the son of Jessie Virginia Ahalt, Frederick and the late Milburn Roelke Ahalt. He was a member and served as usher at Boonsboro Family worship Center. He is survived by a son Michael Ahalt of Jefferson, a granddaughter Devan Renee Ahalt, a sister Kay (John) Dallavalle of Frederick, a nephew Eric (Angie) Dallavalle and three great-nieces.

While Larry spent his early years in the quiet town of Burkittsville, the family moved into the distant suburbs of Frederick at 10th and Market Street in the 50's. This is where Larry learned the value of hard work and business basics. He was an avid lawn mower and snow shoveller. In addition, he became a committed recycler of aluminum cans and used bicycles. With Dad's encouragement, Larry was also a champion Go-Kart driver and was proud of his accumulated trophies. After graduating from Frederick High, he went to work for Canam Steel in Point of Rocks where he spent his 47 year working career as a welder. Aside from working, Larry was person who enjoyed the ocean. He particularly liked going to Ocean city with friends and family for Spring and Fall special weekends. He was not limited to domestic travel as his parents and sister encouraged Larry to "see the world" by joining them on trips to Israel and England. He was happy to have been baptized in the Jordan River by Pastor John Hagee.

Larry was a person who embodied the Christmas message with his volunteer work for his Church and his elaborate decorations both outside and inside his home. He knew what it meant to give cheerfully. And, he knew how to enjoy fellowship with and to give back to his community inside the church.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM on Thursday January 10 at the Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown. Funeral services will be held 2 PM on Friday January 11 from the Boonsboro Family Worship Center, 7605 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. Pastor Jack Payne will officiate. Interment will be made in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Middletown.

The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Boonsboro Family Worship Center .

I remember going to Myrtle Beach with Larry some years ago when he was going with my Sister, Carolyn. What a truly terrific person he was and what a great time we had. Over the many years I knew Larry I can think of no person who showed more kindness and willingness to help with any problem or concern. He will be deeply missed by Melanie and myself.

I'm very sorry to hear of Larry's passing. As the days pass in mourning remember his kind smile and his laughter. He was a friend to a few members of my family and we enjoyed his company at family gatherings and vacations. Larry was a kind man with a gentle soul.

Rest In Peace Larry.
