Marvin Todd Obituary
Mr. Marvin G. Todd, 78, of 4510 Timbery Drive, Jefferson, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, at his home, of heart failure.
He was the husband of Bess L. Adams Todd, whom he married Feb. 12, 1943.
Born Feb. 4, 1924, in Harmony, Caroline County, he was a son of the late Norman H. and Julia Willis Todd.
Mr. Todd was a 1940 graduate of Preston High School. He served in the military during World War II.
He was the president and owner of Todd Van and Storage Inc., and retired in 1990, after selling the business. He was former transportation superintendent at Todd Steel, Point of Rocks.
Mr. Todd was a member of Jefferson United Methodist Church and a former member of Harmony Methodist Church. He served both churches as Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher, youth ministry, on various committees and chairmanships. He was a life member of United Methodist Men. He had been a certified lay speaker.
He also was a former member of the Rotary Club, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow; a member of the American Legion and Masonic Lodge 191; and a former member of Gideon's International.
Mr. Todd had served as the first president of Valley Elementary School PTA in Jefferson.
He enjoyed his family and his church. He enjoyed boating, fishing, crabbing and entertaining friends on the Choptank River. In earlier years he had enjoyed flying and held a private pilot's license.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Larry R. Todd and wife Sharon of Mount Airy, and M. Glen Todd and wife JoAnn of Frederick; two daughters, Sharon Lee Boyer and husband Don of Middletown, and Patricia K. Herber and husband David of Jefferson; seven grandchildren, Monte Boyer and wife Colleen of Houston, Texas, Donna Gravett and husband Dennis of Tracy, Calif., Troy Todd and wife Becky of Mount Airy, Midshipman Shane Todd of Annapolis, Jennifer Serenyi and husband Nick of Darnestown, and Josh and Katie Herber, both of Jefferson; four great-grandchildren, Grant and Riley Boyer, Kennedy Todd and Sarah Elizabeth Serenyi; two stepgrandchildren, Brenda Rinehart and husband Michael of Middletown, and Patrick Nolan of Fairfield, Pa.; six stepgreat-grandchildren, Meghann, Bethany and Bradley Rinehart, and Zach, Sam and Maggie Nolan; one brother, Norman W. Todd and wife Marian of Salisbury; one sister, Miriam Nagel of Preston; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Todd was preceded in death by one grandson, Ronald Montgomery Boyer; and one sister, Evelyn Cox.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27, at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28. His pastor, the Rev. Lori M. Hoffman, of Jefferson United Methodist Church, will officiate.
Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
