Douglas M. Chewning
Douglas McArthur Chewning, 63, of Riverdale, Md., passed away Friday, March 16, 2007, at Washington Hospital Center.
Born in Spotsylvania County, Mr. Chewning graduated from Spotsylvania High School and attended Eastern Tennessee State University. He was the son of the late Willie V. and Emma Hairfield Chewning of Spotsylvania County.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 45 years, Monica Flippo Chewning of Riverdale, Md., formerly of Fredericksburg; four sons, Douglas M. Chewning Jr. and his wife, Vera, of Woodbine, Md., Troy Chewning and his wife, Stephanie, of Buford, Ga., Timothy Chewning of Riverdale, and Brian Chewning and his wife, Tammy, of North Beach, Md.; three brothers, William B. Chewning of Oregon, Norman Chewning of Richmond and Larry Chewning of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Sylvia Flewellyn of Arnold, Md., and Gladys Wilt of Baltimore, Md.; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He also was preceded in death by a brother, David Chewning, and sisters, Julia Chewning and Ellen Gill.
The family will receive friends at Fort Lincoln Funeral Home, 3401 Bladensburg Road, Brentwood, Md., on Tuesday, March 20, from 5 to 8 p.m.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 21, with a viewing one hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends after the service at Colmar American Legion Post 131, in Colmar, Md.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Washington Hospital Center, c/o Cardiac Care Center, 110 Irving St., N.W., Washington, D.C. 20010.
