Helen Blackwell

Gaffney, SC – Helen Painter Blackwell, 93, formerly of Anthony Street, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 30, 2025 at Peachtree Centre.

Born in Gaffney, she was the widow of the late Leonard Lester Blackwell and daughter of the late Garland Painter, Sr. and Mamie Blanton Painter. She retired from Wachovia Bank, was the past president of the Business & Professional Women's Club in Gaffney, a member of West End Baptist Church, and the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are her nieces and caregivers, Kaye Allison (Rex) and Sheila Carpenter (Dave); nieces and nephews, Teresa Bright (Benny), Deborah McKnight (Terry), Cindy Honeycutt (Robbie), Mike Painter (Sharon) and Denise Volz; numerous great-nieces and greatnephews and a sister-in-law, Anita Painter. She is also survived by her extended family Terry Blackwell (Bonnie), Leonard Blackwell, Jr. (Emily) and Todd Blackwell. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Millie Donahue, brothers, Garland Painter, Jr., Horace Painter and Jonas Claude Painter and half-brothers, Carl Painter and Gayle Painter.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Peachtree Centre Units 1 & 3 Administration and Staff and Agape Hospice for their loving care.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at Blakely Funeral Home. Funeral services will immediately follow at 11:00 AM in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Michael McCurry officiating. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
