Blair Rice Obituary

BESSEMER CITY - Blair Rice II, 47, passed away Jan. 7, 2015, at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte.

He was born Jan. 3, 1968, in New London, Wis., son of Gail Lee Huffstetler Rice and the late Daniel Blair Rice.

Blair was a good husband, son and father. He was a hard working man who set an example for his children.He enjoyed fishing, watching wrestling and he was a wonderful cook. He was a member of Sunnyside Baptist Church, Bessemer City, where he served as an usher, Sunday school teacher, Secre-tary/Treasurer and a bus driver. He was a Godly man who loved and was committed to Jesus Christ.

A celebration of Blair's life will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Sunnyside Baptist Church, 1631 Tryon Courthouse Road, Bessemer City, officiated by Pastor Michael Blair Rice and the Rev. David Poteat.

The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Interment will be in the church cemetery following the service on Sunday.

In addition to his mother, Gail Rice, Blair is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Betty Lou Rice; sons, Michael Blair Rice and wife Sabrina, Ricky Lennon Tscheiller; daughter, Wendy Rose Cherka; brothers, Danny Owens, Jeffrey Rice, Terry Rice, Scott Rice; sisters, Page Medlin, Colleen Rice; grandchil-dren, Sophie and Micah Rice, Faith and Caroline Cherka; special aunt, Ninnie Cox; beloved dog, Pre-cious.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by, grandparents, Linwood and Mary Huffstetler, Luther and Arnee Rice.

Memorials may be sent to Sunnyside Baptist Church, 1631 Tryon Courthouse Road, Bessemer City, NC 28016.

Arrangements are with the West Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia, 704-867-5521.

I think of my cousin very often. He was like my younger brother. I miss his smile and his laughter. Im glad he found God and is in his presence. That makes it a little easier to not see him.
