EC-P was one of the bright point of my grad school experience. I probably haven't seen him in 20 years of so, but his face on this page certainly makes me smile.

Ercole was my mentor, a cherished colleague, and a dear friend. He unselfishly shared his deep understanding of microbes with all his many students and associates. His devotion to science, research and teaching was inspirational. From Ercole I learned what it means to be a scientist, my love of microbes, the importance of a sense of humor, and many of the intangibles of leading a good life. I miss him now and I will miss him always.
